My Summer face: Wearable lip trends

Hello beauties!

So today I have a make-up post, and it's all about how to carry that pout proud this season!
New technological advances in cosmetics has led to 'multi-functional' lip products - I've tried to unravel the hundreds of spin-offs from the humble lipstick, with a few swatches of my favourite colours I've been wearing this Summer.

Tinted lips & cheeks
It might seem a little old-fashioned to match lips and cheeks, but it's perfect for a super quick daytime make-up. Also because your lips are already pigmented the colour wears very differently.

The only downfall with it is that a product is always going to be marginally better at moisturising the lips (less staying powder) or at staining the cheeks (more drying). If the formula isn't a powder finish you could always layer a thin veil of powder blush to set.

Recommendations:

Orange is the new red
This is undoubtedly SS14's hottest colour, whether it's a classic orangey brick red or a coral blue-based hue, there are many brands which have launched products in this shade. I would suggest a warmer (more yellow) tone for oriental or olive skins, and cooler (more blue) shades for paler girls with pink undertones. Having said that, the bluer colours do make your teeth look whiter so are somewhat more universal.

Glossy but never sticky
Long gone are the days of sticky, gloopy lipglosses from Department store makeup sets. There are many fabulous products on the market which you can layer over blotted lipstick or simply on their own as they are just so nourishing and pigmented. From flattering nudes to sheer brights, there's something for everyone in these ranges!

Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balm (06 Sweet Papaya) // Tanya Burr Lip Gloss (Smile, Dream, Sparkle)

Matte and soft
I never thought I could wear the matte lipstick as my lips are fairly dry naturally and also not particularly full (gloss makes lips appear plumper). This was until I discovered the new generation of mattes lip creams. They are liquid lipsticks which apply like a gloss but dry with a velvety finish. These have much better staying (and staining) power than their glossier counterparts, and are usually extremely pigmented. Best of all, they crack and tug less than the traditional lipstick and wear off much more naturally!

Liquid stains
Glossy lips are bang on trend this season. Ever since the release of the YSL Glossy Stain, the 'liquid lipstick' has become a new cult classic, it offers the nourishment of a lip balm, shine of a gloss and leaves a stain of colour with time and wear. There are now many highstreet versions which work just as well, and they are definitely my go-to formula and finish for the Summer!
